For years the Long Rod has been the go-to weapon of many Southern California Anglers fishing prolific California and Baja waters. The practices of this application are steeped in tradition but as fisheries and techonology evolves, so should your fishing tackle.
The Long Rod
The Birth of a Shimano Jig Stick
Mounting the reel: Clamp it anywhere! High Density EVA shielded by Black Diamond Shrink tube ensures the reel will be well anchored wherever you want it. Pull the line through the guides and Tie on your favorite jig!
Line Flow: Give and Take! We use Fuji SIC and Fuji Alconite concept guides on these models. Concept guide sizing offers the smallest difference in sizes from Guide ring to Guide ring which lessens line friction as it travels through the guides on the cast which results in longer casts.
Cast Again: And again! Due to the nature of this technique and trying to fool the fish into biting a chunk of Aluminum with a hook on it 100's of casts in a day are not uncommon. It's the nature of the beast! We have built these rods to be light enough to cast all day. In fact they are on average 20% lighter than our competitors' rods of equal length and power.
Cast the Jig: Taper is everything! We used TC4 to build these series of rods. These tapers allow for the longest casting distance by making spool management easy. Too fast or too slow results in difficult spool management which ultimately causes backlashes. Less Backlash = Longer casting.
Don't drop it: Grip is Important! We used Black Diamond Shrink tube for ultimate traction. Wet or dry it offers the best grip available.
Hook a Fish: The Comfortable Edge! TC4 has enabled us to offer a Long rod that is easier on the Angler. Many rods pull well with marginal comfort when the fish is 50 yards away from the boat. When you are strapped into a 40 pound Yellowtail and he is straight up and down right next to the boat this is where TC4 shines. These are the most comfortable long rods you have ever fished.
Everyone uses a jig stick differently. This is the challenge and the beauty of the Long Rod.
